Puraan | 4-Shiv Puraan | Miscellanea
Once, when the Gan of Shiv Jee praised the glory of mother Satee, Shiv Jee became overjoyed just like an ordinary human being. In his joy, he traveled all around the three world. He then returned to Kailaash and went into meditation. While he was engrossed in his Samadhi, three drops of perspiration originated from his forehead fell down on the Earth. From those three drops manifested a very beautiful infant, who was of reddish complexion and who had four arms. Seeing the child Shiv Jee became concerned about his upbringing. Right then, mother Earth manifested and Shiv entrusted the job of child's upbringing to her. The child was brought up by mother Earth with great love and care. The child was named "Bhaum" as he was nurtured and brought up by "Bhoomi" (Earth). When the child grew up, he went to Kaashee and did a tremendous penance to please Shiv Jee. Shiv Jee became very pleased with him and blessed him by granting him Mangal Lok (auspicious world), which was superior even to the Shukra Lok . The same Bhaum is established in the solar system by the name of Mars. We know the story of Kaam Dev who was burnt to ashes when he tried to create love in the heart of Shiv Jee for Paarvatee Jee who was attending on him. Shiv Jee's anger did not subside after the death of Kaam Dev and the whole world started to feel the wrath of Shiv Jee's fury. All the living creatures became terrified. They went to Brahmaa Jee and prayed to him to save them from Shiv's wrath. Brahmaa Jee went to Shiv and conveyed their request to him. Shiv Jee agreed to relinquish his anger, so Brahmaa Jee then carried Shiv Jee's fury to the sea and requested the sea to possess it until the final annihilation. The sea agreed to do this. This way Shiv's fury entered into the sea and all the living creatures felt a sign of relief. Because of the fury of Shiv there are the unending waves in the sea. After the anger was subsided the desire arose in Shiv's mind to marry Paarvatee Jee. So Shiv went to Himvaan in disguise as a dancer and asked for Paarvatee's hand. Himvaan could not recognize him as Shiv so he refused to give Paarvatee to him twice.
Anaranya became frightened and gave his daughter to him. Sage Pippalaad happily went away accompanied by Padmaa. But both the King and the queen went to the forest because of the sorrow of giving their young daughter to such an old sage. The queen died because of her grief. The King, because of his deep devotion towards Shiv attained to the abode of Shiv. At the time of his marriage sage Pippalaad was old and weak, but still Padmaa devotedly performed all the duties of a faithful wife. Once Dharm Raaj arrived at the bank of that river where Padmaa was taking her bath to test her faithfulness towards her husband. He was in the guise of a young and handsome prince. He coaxed Padmaa to leave behind her old husband and come along with him. Padmaa became furious at this and cursed him. Dharm Raaj became very pleased and revealed his true identity to her. He also asked her as to how the effects of her curse could be nullified. Padmaa said to him - "Your sins would result in having four legs of Dharm during the era of Sat Yug, but they will be reduced to three during the era of Tretaa Yug, which would again reduced to two legs during the era of Dwaapar Yug and ultimately you would have only one leg during the era of Kali Yug. And that even his one single leg would disappear during the ending phase of Kali Yug. This would appropriately act as atonement for your sins." Dharm Raaj blessed her by saying that she would have ten sons and also that her husband would possess youth and long life for eternity. After listening to this story, Himaalaya agreed to marry Paarvatee to Shiv.
