Kataapayaadi System

Jaya according to Kataapayaadi is 18. Here is what Kataapayaadi is. In case of combined letters the last letter is to be used. Independent vowels are all zeros. In Karnatak music this is used to indicate the rank of Melakarta Raag. For example, Khara-Harapriya is the name of the Raag. Khara meaning 22 is added to mean that it is the 22nd Raag. So it is called Khara Harapriya.

Naaraayan Bhattathiri composed the Naaraayaneeyam in honor of Naaraayan of Guru in more than thousand verses. The last verse of this is The last word not only prays for Aayuh, Aarogya, and Saukhyam but also indicates the Kalidin Saankhya 1712210 when he completed the Stotra. This 172210 comes from the Kataapayaadi. One has to read in the reverse order.

Bhoot Saankhya.
Bhoot Saankhya Kataapayaadi is generally followed in South India. In the North what is followed is called Bhoot Saankhya. Prithvi, Aap, Tejas, Vaayu and Aakaash are the five Bhoot. If separately used Prithvi denotes 1, Aap denotes 2. Tejas denotes 3, Vaayu denotes4 and Aakaash denotes 5. If Bhot word is used, it denotes 5. I am now quoting from Varaah Mihir's Brihat Jaatak --
Here Varaah Mihir states the Atyuchchaa positions of the seven planets.
