Biographies-Introduction-1 How Astrology Began
(1) Angiraa -> Brihaspati -> Kach, Deerghtamaa In fact Rishi Jaimini was one of four disciples of Rishi Ved Vyaas - the other three being Pail, Vaishampaayan and Sumantu. Ved Vyaas transmitted each of the Four Ved to each of his disciples - Saam Ved was transmitted to Jaimini. Jaimini was the founder of the Poorv Meemaansaa - one of the six Darshan (school of Indian Philosophy). Jaimini also wrote the "Jaimini Bhaarat" (another version of the Mahaabhaarat) other than the Jaimini Sootra.
The above lineage clearly indicates the origins of astrology. There is school of thought which says that Jaimini learnt astrology from Paraashar, but this is doubtful and may be a weak attempt to justify inclusion of Jaimini astrology in Paraashar Horaa. The question that arises is, if Paraashar Horaa originally included the Jaimini astrology, then why did Varaah Mihir or Kalayaan Varmaa etc did not include it in their works. It is a very strong argument that such great scholars were not aware of (Jaimini Sootra), particularly when they have held Paraashar in great reverence.
