Origin of Vaar

The Hindu call the almanac as Panchaang. This denotes a Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yog and Karan. Vaar is the week day.

According to PV Kane, there is no mention of week day both in Raamaayan and Mahaabhaarat. The system of week days started in the west, probably from Greece. The following is from the Baal Kaand 18th Sarg of Vaalmeeki Raamaayan -- there is no mention of week day here.

The origin of weekdays given in Aaryabhateeyam --

In the sky at a remote distance lie the stars.
Under them Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus Mercury and Moon move.
Under these the Earth remain in the sky as a post.

These seven planets are the Lords of each hour arranged according to their speed, the slowest one first and the fastest one is the last. When there are 24 Horaa or hours in a day and night, the Lord of the first day is Saturn at sunrise. Then the fourth becomes the Lord of the first hour at sunrise on the next day. The day is named after the Lord of the first hour. So the week days are - Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Christians changed the first day to Sunday. Horaa is a Greek word from which the hour word in English has come.

Week day was established in India during Aaryabhat's time. That it is of Greek origin can be ascertained by his use of the word "Horaa" in Horesaah. Even Varaah Mihir could not find Horaa in Sanskrit. So he wondered its origin like this.

He said it could be Aho-Raatra with the disappearance of the first and last letters in Aho-Raatra.

Another point to be brought out here is that in India, the day is divided into 60 Naadikaa and not 24 hours which is a Greek method.

In the very ancient times the days were named after the Nakshatra. It was later, probably by the time of Suci's composition of the Vedaang Jyotish (ie, by about 1400 BC) the Atharv Ved Parishiht mentioned the week days.

Vaar is connected with SUN - This is wrong .
Vaar are created by the SEVEN tongues of AGNI which is ruled by MARS.

The Vaar is Horaa and Horaa is based on the Sun. How it is connected and its secrets are secrets.

(1) All 5 elements are directly or indirectly connected with SUN.
(2) Bhoo Lok (Earth) is ruled by MARS / Mangal.
(3) Bhuva Lok (Solar system) is ruled by SUN.

When all FIVE elements are connected with SUN, then how can you say that Vaar is ONLY connected with Sun.. ??
Vaar are created by the 7 tongues of Agni which is Mangal.
If a horoscope has got severe Mars Dosh, then 7 houses will suffer in that Jaatak'a horoscope.
