Total Solar Eclipse of 8/1/2008
See also     Solar Eclipse in Lal Kitab

There is a Total Solar eclipse on August 1, 2008 and a partial Lunar eclipse on August 16/17, 2008. Thus there are two eclipses within 16 days.

Where this solar eclipse will be visible?
In the region covering northern and eastern part of North America, Greenland, Northern Europe and Asia excluding Japan. In India, it will be visible as a partial eclipse. The eclipse occurs in the constellation of the star Pushya. Hence the people born in Punarvasu (star ahead of Pushya) and Aashleshaa (star after Pushya), besides Anuraadhaa and U-bhadraa (stars akin to Pushya whose star lord is Shaneeshwar) should do "Shaanti Parihaar" which is given separately as you read on.

Solar eclipse happening in Kark Raashi may have an adverse effect especially for persons and countries whose rising Sign (Lagna) is Kark and if Kark happens to be the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th or 12th House from Janma Lagna. However, beneficial aspects from natural benefics to the above mentioned houses should help mitigate the negatives to a large extent (either in the natal chart or in transit)

How does it affect the individuals?
The impact (that varies from individual to individual) is normally felt after 4 months and the same will be equivalent to the number of hours and minutes of the duration of the eclipse. In this Solar eclipse since the duration of the eclipse under discussion is 4 hrs and 34 minutes, the impact would be for 4yrs, 6 months and 24 days starting after 4 months from the eclipse.

Shaanti Parihaar:
(1) Chant the Mantra intended to ward off the negatives likely to emanate, because of solar eclipse 7 times minimum. (Mantra is given at the end)
(2) Take a copy of the Mantra in a white sheet and keep it on the head and have head bath after the eclipse is over.
(3) Do Anna Daan and Vastra Daan to Vedic scholars with Dakshinaa (cash) in coin form and not in rupee notes after the eclipse or the next morning.
(4) Offer 'Agathi Keerai' with jaggery to cows after the eclipse.

Mantra to ward off the adverse effects
Indranalo Dandadharsh Riksha: Prachetaas Kuber Eesha:|
Majjanma Rikshey Mam Raashi Samastey Arkoparagam Shamayan Tu Sarve||

This is also to advise you to sit, focus and do the Jap of Mantra initiated to you during the eclipse time as you will be benefited manifolds. It is also advised to put a small piece of "darbha" (Kushaa grass) in all the eatables before the commencement of the eclipse. Pregnant women are advised to remain indoors closing all the doors  so that the growing fetus is not afflicted by cosmic rays during eclipse lest the child born does not have any deformity.

Those eligible to do "Pitra Tarpan" have to perform the same as the eclipse is about to end after having head bath to get the blessings of the forefathers that will help to get rid of any adverse backlash consequent to the 'solar eclipse'.

On 1st Aug, Solar eclipse will be taking place in Pushya of Cancer Sign
On 16-8-08 in Dhanishthaa Nakshtra of Capricorn and Mostly of Aquarius as the time being mid night.

The astral lords for these being Saturn and Mars and occurring in enemy signs, precautions will be appropriate. For Cancer Raashi people having Shani Mahaa-Dashaa/ Antar and Pratyantar-Dashaa, (particularly for women in the family way) and also Aquarians having Dashaa, Antar and Pratyantar of Mars, (particularly women) need precautions.

It is also felt Lgna lords of these signs may cause no harm but may lead to Mrityu Tulya Kasht.
Considering the difficult transit position of Planets, air travel need to be minimized. Prayers to Durgaa and Hanumaan Jee will be beneficial to reduce bad effects of these Graha.

All mothers to be [women in their family way] have to take a few precautions at the time of any eclipse; be it lunar or solar.

[1] Take a piece of Kalaavaa [Maulee, or the red Pooja thread], long enough to go round the waist. Take this Kalaavaa [Maulee] to a temple, place it before lord Ganesh and pray that this Kalaavaa be the 'Raksha Kavach' for the child in her womb. Come back home and the mother to be should tie this thread round her waist. After the eclipse is over, she should take it off and leave it at the temple after thanking Lord Ganesh to have protected her child from all the ill effects of the eclipse.
[2] Should not come out in the open space at the time of the eclipse, nor watch it.
[Priya]

--They should not eat, or drink anything, should not sleep during the eclipse period.
--They should sit on the floor and may do Jap of Santaan Gopaal Mantra all the time.

Generally the eclipses are not good for a few zodiac signs:--
benefic for -- Libra, Taurus, Pisces
malefic for -- Cancer, Capricorn, Leo, Aquarius, Aries and Gemini
normal for -- Sagittarius, Scorpio, Virgo

At the time of eclipse, person who wants, can do the Poojaa Archanaa of their God. Normally the Poojaa/ Archanaa/ worship of Shree Hari Vishnu Jee is Good. Chant Mantra -
Om Namo Naaraayanaaya, or
Om Namo Bhagavatey Vaasudevaaya, or
Mahaa Mrityunjaya Mantra

Benefic for those who have Moon in - Taurus, Virgo, Libra, and Pisces
malefic for those who have Moon in - Aries, Cancer, Leo and Sagittarius
mixed results for the rest of the Signs - Gemini, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Capricorn

One should recite the Guru Mantra in this period as much as he can (Purashcharan). This would prove very much beneficial.
