Introduction

Knowing the benefic and malefic needs a lot study and understanding of the Shaastra. Only Brihat Paraashar Horaa Shaastra (BPHS) is enough for this. Mostly practice and insight is needed for best understanding, as many malefic planets give good results in some specific matter for the placement. Similarly a benefic Planet like 9th Lord can be bad for some matters. This needs deep insight. But mostly "malefic and benefic" concepts are good for working.

Mangal is the first class benefic and alone can give a Raja Yoga.
Jupiter is pretty good, but also depends on placement.
Sun is also benefic, more than Jupiter that is I consider.
Malefics are Moon,  Mercury, Venus, and Saturn as Paraashar says.
