The entire Aayur Ved is just a part of Atharv Ved, Atharv Ved is the "Vigyaan Kaand" (Gyaan means knowledge, Vigyaan means science, in this case science of healing). And remember, healing is not curing. Healing is a much more bigger word, a holy word. Gods heals you. Healing is for the total being. There is only one God in the universe who expresses Himself in various forms, various deities in various parts of world, He is the healer, the one in every particle of world.
As per the deepest science of healing, even Yog or Tantra says disease is nothing but a state of mind... and once you understand the "Holistic Healing" then you understand how that is true, because the 4th spiritual or subtle Body (Sooksham Shareer kaa Oorjaa Kosh), the Mental Body (Vigyaanmaya Kosh) is the Causal Body, that is the location root of diseases, may it be from this life or past life(ves), or even life in between life. The traditional Indian healing gives three basic forms of healing.
(1) Mani Dwaaraa (Through gems and crystal... this means astrology and Energy Body
This what we are here for. Here Tantra means Nigam Tantra as well as Agam Tantra, that means Yog and what most people know as Tantra. If you use Raaj Yog, then it works directly on the mental body, that is why it is called Raaj (king) Yog, the topmost Yog. Hath Yog is good for a person at too much gross level. Anyways Raaj Yog is not attainable without the base of Hath Yog. Similarly many other forms of Yog actually work for therapy.. Bhakti Yog, Laya Yog...
Then on the Tantra side, Mantra rituals become significant. Help and blessings of higher beings are taken to solve out the blockages in our lives. Like use Soorya's Chaakshushmatee Stotra with required rituals for healing eyes (mind you. This is again very precise, you are not just doing a Soorya Yagya, your asking Sun god to give you something very precise, it gives faster results). Of course through Tantra Spirit problems are solved but one needs to do Moksh Karm for them to release them to light. And a lot more. Thus each therapy has its own significance in its own place. Like there is a saying - "Rahiman Dekh baden ko, laghu na deejai daari, jahaan kaam aaye suee, kaah karai Talavaari" (Raheem Jee says, seeing something big don't underestimate small, place where you need needle, what will you do with a sword?) The same thing applies for therapies for healing. It's not that a child has common cold and you start Mahaa Mrityunjaya Mantra for it.
A true healer not just knows different types of therapies but also knows which therapy to use for which client and when. For some clients, crystal therapy working on the energy body is enough, it makes changes up towards the emotional (Mano-maya Kosh) and mental body and down towards physical body (Anna-maya Kosh). Sometimes first one needs to work on emotional body and then on energy. While mostly, first on physical body (this is by Aushadhi, exercise, massage etc) and then on subtle bodies. So one really needs to have complete knowledge before summing it up. Injury is not a disease. If you got a fracture or big cut etc, go to a surgeon (surgery is only thing that has evolved from time of Charak but healing has still gone back)
The main thing, for the person suffering with hernia, in eyes of a healer that is a type of cancer. That is a blockage due to accumulation of some hate somewhere, consciously you might not know it but that is what it is. It has moved down to energy body and now manifested in physical body as well. You will need to first reduce it as much as possible from energy body (for immediate relief) and then solve the root of problem.
