Hodjaa's Story No 9

Previous | Next

9-Hasty Reward

One day Hodjaa and his friend were coming back from somewhere. There was a stream in the way. The bridge on that stream was very old, narrow and muddy. Hodjaa managed somehow to cross that bridge, but his friend couldn't manage it. He fell at the edge. Hodjaa immediately offered his help, and let him grasp his hand to bring his friend come out.

His friend felt obligated and immediately promised him to give twenty Deenaars for saving his life.
Hodjaa said, "Thank you" and let him go into the water. The man managed somehow to come out of the water.
The man said, "Why did you do so?" Hodja said, "To take my reward."

The man said, "Couldn't you have waited for me to come out of the water safely?"
At this Hodjaa said, "Couldn't you have waited till you came out of the water completely and stood on the ground?"

The End
