21-Stories of Vishnu
Vishnu's boons are not like Brahmaa and Shiv's boons as mostly Asur were very
mighty, they just desired for more power and immortality (Devtaa already had
it) and almost all Asur worshiped Brahmaa Jee or Shiv Jee. Vishnu's stories
are of different types. Read some of them and appreciate them.....
When an Asur Gilaa Swallowed Vishnu
When Andhakaasur, could not
get Paarvatee Jee, he sent Gilaa named Asur who could swallow everything.
He swallowed the Sun, the Moon and even Vishnu. How could happen this?
When Vishnu incarnated as Narasinh to kill Hiranyakashyap, even after
killing him he was not satisfied. He was so much filled with anger. So he
set out to swallow the whole world. At that time Sapt Rishi cursed Him
that He Himself will be swallowed by a demon. Vishnu accepted their curse
and that is how He was swallowed by this Asur Gilaa; otherwise He could
not be swallowed by anyone.
When Bhrigu Hit His Foot on Vishnu's Chest....
Once Rishi had an argument that who was greatest among the three Devtaa.
So Bhrigu Jee was sent to test the three Devtaa. First he went to Brahm
Lok and found Brahmaa Jee sitting in his court and enjoying. He did not
greet Brahmaa Jee, so Brahmaa Jee got angry, but when he saw that he was
his own son, he suppressed his anger. From there he went to Kailaash
Parvat he saw Shiv Jee sitting there. Shiv immediately got up to hug his
brother, but Bhrigu Jee did not welcome his hug. He said - "You have
disobeyed the world and the Ved that is why I don't accept your hug."
Shiv Jee got angry at this and got ready to kill him with his Trishool.
Satee stopped him doing so. Then he came to Vaikunth Lok. Vishnu was lying
on Shesh Shayyaa and Lakshmee Jee was massaging His feet. Brigu hit His
chest with his foot. Bishnu immediately got up and said - "Welcome
Muni, You did not tell me that you were coming that is why I could not
welcome you properly. Have you not hurt your foot? Your lotus feet are very
soft. Now this mark will be on my chest for ever." and saying this He
caressed them for long time. Bhrigu Jee told Rishi - "Indeed, Vishnu is
the greatest Devtaa among all."

Why Vishnu's Bhakt are Poor?
One day Yudhishthir asked Krishn - "How is it that although Shiv is
Supreme Yogee, ever absorbed in meditation, his followers enjoy great
prosperity on Earth; and that also Vishnu is the Lord of Wealth (Lakshmee
Pati), His followers seem to have dispassion and Vairaagya for worldly
enjoyments?" Krishn said - "Shiv is ever connected with Shakti
(Power), which is associated with the manifestation of the Gun. Therefore
who worship him will naturally get the material benefits in this world. While
Vishnu id beyond even the Gun, and to reach Him, His Bhakt have to rid
themselves even of the Gun." he further said - "Little by little, I
take away the wealth of him whom I wish to favor. When he is reduced to extreme
poverty, he makes new efforts in the material world which get defeated again
and again. Ultimately he seeks the company of my Bhakt, and it is then that I
reveal him my infinite glory." Thus Shiv Jee is Sankatmochan.

Why Vishnu Has to Take 10 Incarnations?
Once Devtaa and Asur were fighting with each other. Asur got defeated so
they sought the shelter in Bhrigu Rishi's Aashram. Bhrigu Jee gave them
shelter and went to Himaalaya to bring Sanjeevanee herb. In the meantime
Vishnu came there and He killed all the Daitya there. Seeing this Bhrigu's
wife Divyaa got very angry and she was about to curse Vishnu that He cut
her neck with His Chakra. At the same time Bhrigu also came there. Seeing
his wife and all Asur dead he became very angry and he cursed Vishnu -
"You will be born on Prithvi 10 times." To keep Muni's words true
Vishnu has to incarnate 10 times on Prithvi. He has already come here 9
times and His 10th incarnation, Kalki Avataar, is still remaining.

Why Shiv Had to Incarnate as Hanumaan to Help Raam
When Gajmukhaasur got the boon from Shiv, that Shiv would live in his belly.
Only Vishnu got him released from that Asur, so Shiv Jee was extremely grateful
to Him. He said to Him showing his gratitude - "As you have helped me in
my such bad times, I will also help you in your bad times." So when Vishnu
incarnated as Raam, Shiv also incarnated as Hanumaan to help Him in all His
times.
When Vishnu Worshiped Shiv...
Vishnu worshipped Shiv three times --
(1) According to Tulasee's Maanas, When Vishnu incarnated as Raam, He worshiped
Shiv on the shore of the sea before crossing it.
(2) According to Vaalmeeki Raamaayan, he worshipped Shiv after returning from Lankaa.
He was with Seetaa at that time. He asked Hanumaan to bring a Ling. Hanumaan went
to bring the Ling. He got late and the Muhoort was passing, so Seetaa made a Ling
and Raam worshiped that Ling. When Hanumaan brought the Ling and found that Raam
has finished His Poojaa, he got very angry and sat at a distance quietly. Raam
said - "Your Ling will also be established near Seetaa's Ling and people will
worship your Ling before Seetaa's Ling. Then only he became happy. Even today people
worship Hanumaan's Ling before Seetaa's Ling at Raameshwaram.
(3) When Vishnu incarnate as Krishn, He did Tapasyaa for Shiv to get children from
Satyabhaamaa. Shiv got pleased and bestowed Him with many boons including children.

When Vishnu Fought With Shiv...
It was when Baanaasur's daughter Ushaa saw krishn's grandson Aniruddh in
her dream and got attracted to him. her friend Chitralekhaa brought him to
her in sleep. They both were living happily, that one day Baanaasur came
to know about this affair. ON the other side when Krishn and Pradyumn did
not see Aniruddh, they got worried. Naarad jee came and told that Aniruddh
was in Baanaasur's palace. So they got ready with their army to bring their
son back. Now Baanaasur had a boon from Shiv Jee that he would guard his
city Shonitpur, so when Krishn came to release His grandson, he had to fight
Shiv as he was the guard of Baanaasur's city. Although in a short while Krishn
defeated him, then Shiv asked His mercy to spare his Bhakt's life. Krishn said -
"I could not have killed him anyway as I have already promised Prahlaad
that I will not kill anybody of your Kul." So He cut his all arms leaving
his only two arms. Baanaasur married his daughter to Aniruddh and Krishn came
back to Dwaarakaa with His grandson and his wife Ushaa.

When Naarad Jee Cursed Vishnu....
Even Naarad Jee cursed Vishnu. Once Naarad Jee saw a beautiful place and
desired to take Hari Naam. So he sat down there in Samaadhi. Seeing this
Indra got very worried that why Naarad should do so much Tapasyaa. So he
sent Kaam Dev to disturb his Tapasyaa. Naarad jee opened his eyes and
pardoned Kaam Dev for his evil action. Kaam Dev bowed to him and went
away. Naarad Jee thought he had won Kaam Dev so first of all he told
this to Shiv and in spite of his warning not to tell anybody else, he
told this to Brahmaa Jee and Vishnu. Vishnu thought - "My Bhakt has
become proud so I have to uproot this seed from his heart. When Naarad
Jee went away, Vishnu created a Maayaa city with a King and his beautiful
daughter on his way. Naarad Jee saw the city and wondering that where it
has come from, it was not there before, and entered that beautiful city.
The King was organizing his daughter's Swayamvar.
Naarad Jee went to the King and the King asked him about the future of his daughter.
Naarad was so mesmerized seeing the Princess that he himself wanted to marry her, although
her palm lines were saying the she would marry Vishnu. Naarad Jee immediately
remembered Vishnu, went there and asked Him to give him so much beauty so that the
Princess marries him. Vishnu said - "Naarad, You are my favorite Bhakt, I will
do the same whatever is good for you." Naarad thought he had got the beauty,
so he went to the Swayhamvar of the Princess, but Vishnu had made his face of a monkey.
So when the princess saw his monkey face, she never looked at him again. The then two Shiv's
Gan smilingly said to him to see his face in a mirror. Naarad Jee saw his face and found it of a
Monkey's face. He got very angry seeing this and set off to see Vishnu. He met Him on
the way. He was going with Lakshmee and that Princess. Naarad Jee cursed Him to incarnate
on Prithvi in human form, be separated from His wife as he himself was experiencing now, and then
get help from monkeys because He gave him the face of a monkey. After this Lakshmee and the
Princess got disappeared. Naarad Jee knew that it was all Vishnu's Maayaa.
He repented for his words, but Vishnu consoled him and
accepted his curse. So He incarnated as Raam, got separated from Seetaa and monkeys helped
Him to recover Seetaa.
