8-Ganesh Jee and Talaasur

Often Asur used to trouble Devtaa. Some of them had become so strong after doing intense Tap and getting Var from Brahmaa Jee or Shiv Jee that they were unable to be stopped or defeated. Talaasur was one of such Asur.

Talaasur was the king of Ramanak Dweep. He was very strong but very wicked. Devtaa were very troubled by his atrocities. Talaasur's dream was to defeat Indra and get his kingdom and splendor. One day he got the chance. Indra was sitting in his court. Apsaraa were dancing and sweet music was going on. All Devtaa sitting in his court were unaware of any kind of trouble.

Talaasur ordered his army to attack Heaven and seize Indra. This attack was just unexpected for Indra and other Devtaa, so Talaasur defeated all Devtaa very easily and became the King of the Heavens. Some Devtaa were able to escape. After Talaasur won the battle, he became the Master of the wealth of Indra - Kaamdhenu (the cow who fulfills wishes), Kalp Vriksh (the tree which also fulfills wishes), his Airaavat elephant etc too. Indra had lost everything, so he went into hiding and started making plans to get his things and kingdom back from Talaasur.

Once Talaasur did an intense Tap and pleased Brahmaa Jee and asked the Var, "I should not be defeated by anybody in the world." Brahmaa Jee said - "How can I give such a Var of absoluteness to you? You have to fear at least some species of the world, so you ask the Var keeping this in mind. There are four species in the world - Devtaa, human beings, animals and birds. Whom would you like to fear?"

Talaasur thought for a moment and said - "Father, I want to rule Devtaa and human beings, therefore I should have no fear from them. Let me fear the elephant, the strongest animal then." Brahmaa Jee said - "So be it" and went away. Talaasur was very happy with his Var and now he had no fear from Devtaa or human beings.

Devtaa were in hiding, so he started to make a search for them, then torture them and kill them whoever he found them. When Indra and other Devtaa could tolerate his atrocities no more, they went to Brahmaa Jee and asked the way to kill him. Brahmaa Jee said - "Yes, He has become very strong because of my Var. But if you go to Shiv Jee and ask his help, he can help you through his son Gajaanan because nobody can kill him except an elephant." So Indra went to Kailaash Parvat and prayed Shiv Jee to help them.

Shiv Jee agreed to help Devtaa so he called Ganesh Jee and ordered him to go and conquer Talaasur. Ganesh Jee immediately went to Ramanak Dweep and defeated Talaasur in a fierce battle. As he saw Ganesh Jee coming, he remembered that according to Brahmaa's Var he could be killed only by an elephant, so immediately he prayed Ganesh Jee and asked him to spare his life.

Ganapati was as kind as he was strong. He said to him - "You have troubled Devtaa so much that you have driven them away from Swarg. If you don't do such things again, I can pardon you." Talaasur agreed to Ganesh Jee and Ganesh Jee pardoned him.
