Var to Kaikeyee, Throne to Bharat, Exile to Raam:

Raajaa Dasharath had been seeing the popularity and eligibility of Raam being crowned as the King of Ayodhyaa, so one day he decided to declare Him as the Crown Prince of Ayodhyaa. He consulted his ministers and subordinate kings and they all agreed for it. So the previous day Raam was told to be ready for being the Crown Prince of Ayodhyaa next day. All subordinate kings were present there in Ayodhyaa. Only two people were not informed about this - Bharat and Shatrughn who were at their Maamaa's place at this time and Raajaa Janak.

About them Dasharath thought that they would be informed after the ceremony is held. In fact there was a reason behind in not informing to Bharat and Kaikeyee. Raajaa remembered it, but perhaps Kaikeyee forgot it. First reason was that when Raajaa married to Kaikeyee, he promised that he would appoint her son as the King of Ayodhyaa. The second reason was that once in Dev-Asur Sangraam, Kaikeyee saved his life and Dasharath asked her to ask for any two Var which Kaikeyee told to ask later some time. Raajaa was afraid of these two things that they might disturb Raam's Abhishek.

But as Raajaa decided about this, and informed all in Ayodhyaa, Ayodhyaa got illuminated and decorated once more with happiness. Palaces echoed with music and laughter and hustling and bustling started everywhere.

Devtaa found their efforts going waste so they prayed Brahmaa Jee and Brahmaa Jee asked Saraswatee Jee to help them. Saraswatee Jee entered Mantharaa's speech and seeing all these celebrations, Mantharaa asked herself as what it was all about? On asking a maid thus the maid said - "You don't know? Tomorrow is Raam's Raaj Tilak." Mantharaa got very jealous and sad and went to Kaikeyee immediately and told the news. Kaikeyee got very happy to hear this news that her Raam was going to be the King of Ayodhyaa. She gave a pearl necklace to Mantharaa from her neck for giving this news to her.

Mantharaa beat her head and instigated her that Raam's Raaj Tilak was not good for her and her son Bharat. They would become slave of Kaushalyaa and Raam for their whole life, but Kaikeyee still said - "This is Raghu Kul's tradition that the eldest son becomes the King. Why do you poke your nose in this?" But Mantharaa succeeded in changing Kaikeyee's mind. She reminded her about her two Var to use as weapons to fulfill her wish - first Bharat's Raaj Tilak and second, 14 years exile to Raam. Mantharaa further insisted that she should not ask for her Var from Dasharath until the King vows on Raam

Kaikeyee did the same and she also succeeded in getting her two Var as Mantharaa advised her. Raajaa tried his best to explain her that - "I will perform Bharat's Raaj Tilak immediately but please, do not send my Raam to Van. He is very loving to me. I will not be able to live without Him. You also love Him more than you love Bharat, I know it. What has happened to you today?" But Kaikeyee told him such heart-piercing sentences that Raajaa couldn't say anything further, she said - "Do you want to follow A-Dharm? You always said "I will give, I will give" but when the time came you are not ready to give me. Do you want to break your tradition that "I can lose my life but not my words"?" etc etc.

At last Dasharath had to declare this to Raam, Sumantra, Vashishth Jee and the coming Kings. The whole Ayodhyaa sank in the sea of sadness. Everybody was abusing Kaikeyee. Kaushalyaa was specially sad that her only son was going to Van at such a tender age. Seetaa and Lakshman also got ready to go to Van along with Raam. And they left for Van in the chariot driven by Sumantra leaving weeping the whole Ayodhyaa back.
