Madhu

There are two Madhu. One was a single Madhu. And the other one was with Kaitabh Daitya. These Madhu and Kaitabh Daitya were killed by Vishnu in the beginning of the Creation.

There was another Madhu Daitya who was the single one, he is a Vaalmeeki Raamaayan character. His story comes in its Uttar Kaand. Madhu was a Daitya who used to live in a Van situated on the banks of Yamunaa River. Since he lived there, it became known as Madhu Van. It is the same Madhu Van where Naarad Jee sent Dhruv to do Tapasyaa.

Once he did a severe Tap and pleased Mahaadev. Mahaadev got pleased with his Tapasyaa so he appeared before him and asked him to ask for a Var. He said - "If you are pleased with me then give me such weapon which can always protect me." Mahaadev gave him a scepter and said - "Take this. It will kill your all enemy, as well as nobody will be able to defeat you until it is with you." And he disappeared.

Since then he had that scepter which protected him all the time. When he died he gave that scepter to his son named Lavan. This Lavan was also very mighty. He was killed by Shatrughn - Raam's youngest brother and he then inhabited Mathuraa Nagaree at the same place.
