Jamadagni

Rishi Jamadagni was in the lineage of Maharshi Bhrigu - Bhrigu > Richeek > Jamagdagni. His wife's name was Renukaa who was the daughter of Renu Rishi (or maybe she was the daughter of King Prasenjit?). He is one of the Sapt Rishi of this present Manvantar. They had five sons - Rumanvaan, Sushen, Vasu, Vishwaavasu and Parashuraam. Parashuraam was the youngest. He was a great Rishi and had many Siddhi. He could even bring people alive. He worked as the Purohit in Shunahshep's Yagya.

Jamadagni Asks His Sons to Kill Their Mother
Once Renukaa went to a river to bring water for Maharshi's worship. There she saw Gandharv Raaj Chitrarath playing with his wives in the river. She watched him for sometime. She forgot to take water, she got late. In fact seeing him, she also wished for a young husband, but soon she overtook her thoughts. When she came back with water, Rishi had already known about her mind. He became very angry and asked his eldest son to behead his mother. but he did not do so. Then he asked his second son, then third son and then fourth son, but nobody got ready to do it.

In the last he asked his youngest son Parashuraam to behead his mother as well as his brothers. He did so promptly. At this Jamadagni got very pleased with him and asked him to ask for any Var. Parashuraam, without even second thought, asked to bring all alive and incorporate them in the family without knowing that he killed them. Jamadagni did so and gave him other Var also. They all got up as if they woke up from a sleep.

Jamadagni and Sahastrabaahu
Once Sahastrabaahu visited Rishi Jamadagni and Rishi entertained him and his whole army with the help of his cow Kaamdhenu. Seeing the glory of that cow Sahastrabaahu did not even ask that cow from him, just untied her and took her away.  But the cow, with Jamadagni's permission produced a large army which pushed Sahastrabaahu's army back. So later Sahastrabaahu sent his sons to bring it to him. His sons killed Jamadagni and took away the cow. When Parashuraam Jee came, Renukaa told him everything. Parashuraam Jee kept the dead body and went to  Sahastrabaahu to take the revenge of his father's killing. He killed him and his sons and brought the head of his father and cow back. He joined the head of his father to his dead body and brought him alive.

Another Version
By another version, when Sahastrabaahu took away Jamadagni's cow, Parashuraam Jee went there killed him and his sons and brought Kaamdhenu back. Hearing this Jamadagni Jee said to him - "It is all right that you are brave but you should not have killed the king. Now you should go to Teerth and do Praayashchit. So Parashuraam Jee went to Teerth and did Praayashchit.

Then he did a Yagya in which he assigned east to Hotaa, south to Brahmaa, west to Adhwaryu and north to Udgaataa [who does Saam Gaan]. Then he took bath in the end of the Yagya and sat on the bank of Brahm Nadee Saraswatee. Jamadagni got the status of a Sapt Rishi - the seventh one. In the next Manvantar Parashuraam Jee will be one of the Sapt Rishi and will extend the knowledge of Ved. He is still living on Mahendra Parvat but now he does not punish anybody. That is how Bhagavaan took Avataar in Bhrigu Vansh and killed many kings. and emptied Prithvi from Kshatriya 21 times. He filled five ponds from their blood in Samant-panchak area in Kurukshetra.
